You Found Me
I found God on the corner of 1st and Amistad
Where the West was all but won
All alone, smoking his last cigarette
I said, "Where you been?" He said, "Ask anything"
Where were you when everything was falling apart?
All my days were spent by the telephone that never rang
And all I needed was a call that never came
To the corner of 1st and Amistad
Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me
But in the end everyone ends up alone
Losing her, the only one who's ever known
Who I am, who I'm not and who I wanna be
No way to know how long she will be next to me
Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me!
The early morning, the city breaks
And I've been calling for years and years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
You never sent me no letters
You got some kind of nerve taking all I want!
Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor, where were you? Where were you?
Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me!
Why'd you have to wait to find me, to find me?

Meaningful song. Sing it whenever, even when I'm angry. Gotta love The Fray

I don't know if anyone has watched the video and read lips, but it sure looks like instead of "on the corner of first and Amistad" it should be "on the corner of first and I"M A STAR"
It always seems as though when we are desperately waiting for the telephone to ring, and we need that break, it's not there, and yet the biggest challenge is when we get what we think we need...that is when we can truely lose everything.
I also checked references to Amistad, and unless this is a name of an actual street somewhere, or a reference to the Amistad a slave ship that had a mutiny in 1839 and was made into a Spielberg movie, I'm going with "On the corner of First and I'm a Star"
Love these guys, and the song is awesome!

This song is full of so much pain and disappointment. I hope I never have to experience that.
Some guy on American Idol tried to sing this song and did a horrible job of it; I wanted to throw my TV out the window. He sang it like it was just some trendy song to sing and didn’t bring forth any of the passion and pain that the song was made from.

When I first heard this song, I liked it but never really listened to the lyrics. Then I saw the video and was so confused about what the song meant - were they yelling at God, doubting Him, or questioning Him?! The more I listened and watched the video, the more clear it becomes.
See, God always finds us, and to us it seems like He finds us too late, but really it is at just the right time. It is when we are broken, lost, confused and/or hurt that we need Him the most. He knows just how much we can take before He steps in and saves us.
And we always wonder what takes Him so long to answer us, why does He wait until things get to their worst before He helps us. But He is saying the same to/about us. Most of us never seek Him until we are at our most broken. He is always there and we don't call Him until we need Him.
So the question really is, why did WE have to wait to find HIM?

I absolutely LOVE this song! When I first heard it, it was definitely something that I needed. At the time I was angry with God. I was confused about how he could allow certain things happen. I felt that he was very unfair. I wanted to yell at God all my thoughts and questions. I've noticed that a debate has somewhat started about "telling God off" and if He knows all. I believe there is a reason for everything and God has a plan, but we don't always understand it and we become frustrated and that's ok.

I dont know what your interpretation is of this song but it sounds to me like someone lost the love of his life in a wreck on the corner of First and Amistad and is questioning why God took her from him. Both the video and lyrics match up. But regardless of what your interpretation is, its an amazing song and I personally love it. I highly doubt he's "telling God off" tho lol. And no offense but God DOES know everything He does, and He has a reason for everything He does, and no matter who wants to believe it or not, He is and always will be an almighty and all-powerful being.
God bless!! =]

I love the Fray! Their songs are beautiful! They have been blessed with such talent! The first time I heard this song, I really liked it. But the more I listened to it, the more confused I got about it. I heard people talk about it on the radio, and that got me even more confused. So, I decided to look into it. After I read what Isaac said about the meaning of the song, I finally understood. Sometimes in life things happen that we just don't understand. Things hurt so much that it's hard to see the light at the end. We know there's supposed to be an end; everyone tells us that there's supposed to be an end, but we can't see it. Everything hurts so much that you feel like the end will never come. I think that's why I liked this song so much: I've been there. I know what it's like to be there and to feel that way because I have. But I've also learned that God doesn't leave you without an answer. He says "I've been here all along." It's like when the fog finally clears, you realize what you've been looking for for so long has been there all along. Thanks guys for this great song! The opening up of your heart and life reminds us that none of us are alone.

Right now I am going through a tough time. I have college in the fall and there's just a lot going on. It feels like my life is falling to pieces at the moment and I listened to this song and I mean really listened and I noticed that the lyrics are about someone who hits a roadblock in life and they are trying to find out why it is happening to them. I really enjoy this song. It's really beautiful and meaningful and I'd like to thank Issac for writing it cause I can understand what it's like to go down the hard road in life!
Thank you!

Life is going to hurt. Jesus even told us to expect trouble. When it happens, we can be left spinning..."Where were you? Where were you?"
The answer comes back, just what you said, "You found me." In response to the experiences of our lives, soul sings in tears and smiles. Your music helps me relate. In the end, I say Jesus. paul

The lyrics are so deep, and haunting to the fact, that this is the question we all want to know weather it be God, or someone else. I love the direction of this album and as I did the last but this one seems like you have grown as artists, but it's always refreshing to see that you stick to your roots and not try to change into these “cookie cutter pop stars" *cough cough* Jonas brother… haha. You guys are very relatable. .

I'm glad to hear everything has still worked out for you in the end. Even if it was late coming. Because what's the point otherwise? We see the beauty all around us but we're never really a part of it. There's no way out but there is one way in.
Sat, 01/24/2009 - 02:43
this song is haunting. it says what so many people are afraid to say: where were you? but not just to God, but to so called friends, distant siblings, missing fathers, bitter mothers. and everytime i hear this song, i fall in love with it as if it is the first time I am hearing it.
Fri, 01/23/2009 - 20:09
The first time I heard this song I can't even explain what I was feeling. It has so much emotion into it, the words cut so deep. I listen to it all the time. For some reason I want to cry when I listen to it too! It's just amazing. This song is kinda what I've been trying to say.
This song WILL change peoples lives. =D

I was driving the first time I heard this song - had to pull over because I started crying (and that's not really good when you're driving). Now, let's put this in perspective...
I'm not an emotional girly by any means, but this song expresses how I've been feeling for the last 2 years (to the point that I'm going to tell my friends to buy the album, listen to the track and then say "that's what I've been trying to say"...).
Fantastic.
